RAPID funding for local projects
Green Party Senator and Euro candidate for Dublin, Deirdre de Burca, welcomed funding of €296,781 from the Dormant Accounts Fund to support community projects in Dublin city.
The funding will come from dormant accounts in financial institutions and insurance policies that have not been reclaimed for at least 15 years. Funding is prioritised for groups that help people affected by economic and social disadvantage and people with a disability.
200 projects have been identified across the country for funding under the Dormant Accounts Fund. 15% of the funding is targeted for youth, sport and recreational activities which are very important to incorporate young people in the community.
Senator de Burca said, “I am delighted to hear of this latest wave of funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund. The allocation of funding is very important for local projects in Dublin communities.
“Some of the projects to receive funding in Dublin city include Lourdes Day Care Centre, The Macushla Dance Club, St. Vincent De Paul, St. Oliver Plunketts GAA Club, Step By Step Child And Family Project Limited, Cabra Lions Special Olympic Club, Smithfield Amateur Boxing Club, Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael, the Irish Hockey Association, Charlemont Community Resource Centre and St. Michael’s Parish Youth Project.
“These groups carry out invaluable work, giving a social outlet to people in the community including young people and older people who rely on community services on a daily basis. Despite difficult economic times it is important to provide continuous funding for community projects,” added Senator de Burca.
