Poll shows Green voters most enthusiastic supporters of EU;
Europe needs constructive Irish MEPs help create jobs, says Green MEP candidate

Voters should choose MEPs who will work constructively in Europe to create jobs, the Green Party’s candidate in the Dublin constituency Deirdre de Burca said today.

Reacting to data from the recent Irish Times/MRBI poll, which showed that Green voters are the most enthusiastic supporters of the European Union, Senator de Burca said: “The recent poll findings offer a good insight into what people want from the EU and from their representatives in the European Parliament. I believe that they represent a justification of my decision to concentrate in my campaign on discussing how the EU can help to create jobs in Ireland – especially in the emerging green tech sector.

“I hope that voters in Dublin will look to candidates who have something more to offer than shrill eurosceptisim, negativity and false promises that a better deal in Europe could be gained from voting No to the Lisbon Treaty,” she said.

“Over the coming years I believe that economics, job creation and the unemployment challenge will come to define Ireland’s relationship with the EU.

“On June 5th voters would be best served to elect MEPs that will engage constructively with Europe,” Senator de Burca concluded.

The Irish Times/MRBI poll conducted last week showed that the most enthusiastic supporters of the EU are Green Party supporters, followed by Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour supporters. It also showed that among the Greens Yes voters outnumber the Nos by 60 to 29 per cent.
