New Tara Street Station will benefit commuters
Green Party Senator and European candidate for Dublin, Deirdre De Burca, said that plans for a new train station at Tara Street will benefit commuters and speed up travel times though the city centre.
Iarnród Éireann plans to build a 10-storey office development on the site along with a new train station to exist the existing facility at Tara Street. They are currently seeking a development partner to complete the project.
Senator De Burca said, “I fully support these plans which will centralise rail and DART operations in the Dublin. The new station will allow up to 14,500 passengers to access train and DART services every hour, increasing the turnover of passengers through the city centre’s busiest station.
“I hope that this station will encourage more Dublin people to leave their cars at home and avail of the excellent intercity services offered by Iarnród Éireann. Importantly, the redevelopment plans will also benefit existing commuters by cutting travel times and providing a more pleasant travel experience.
“The new station will boost existing DART and commuter services from 12 services per hour to 20 each way. Rewarding existing customers is the best way to ensure that people continue to use rail services,” added Senator De Burca.
Iarnród Éireann is due to lodge plans with An Bord Pleanála in the coming weeks.
