De Burca welcomes 1.2 billion euro facelift for Moore Street

October 30, 2008

Green Party Senator and Dublin Candidate for Europe, Deirdre de Burca, has welcomed proposals to give a 1.2 billion euro facelift to the area surrounding Moore Street in Dublin’s inner city.

The proposal by property company, Chartered Land, will incorporate two new public streets and three new public squares, 108 modern apartments, 109 new retail stores, a major flagship department store and a roof-top restaurant quarter with 17 new restaurants.

The development will also include a new visitor attraction – the ‘Park in the Sky’ – a rooftop park that provides views of the surrounding city.

Senator De Burca said, “I am delighted to hear of this new development. The area around Moore Street is of huge cultural and historical importance to Dublin city. An investment of this scale would ensure that the area remains an important social and cultural centre for Dublin.

“If it receives the green light from city council, this development will boost the levels of employment in Dublin’s inner city, providing 7000 jobs during the construction phase and creating almost 3000 new jobs for Dublin on completion of the project.

“I have been assured that Chartered Land has given extensive consideration to the historic nature of a number of the buildings within the area and that plans will not interfere with the existing character of the area.

“I will continue to monitor the development of Dublin’s inner city and speak on behalf of local Dublin residents in the Seanad,” added Senator De Burca.
