Greens welcome decision for new Luas line to connect with Rosslare
Green Party public representatives recently welcomed the official decision of the Railway Procurement Agency to extend the Luas B2 Line from Cherrywood, Loughlinstown to connect with the Rosslare Rail Line in Bray Town Centre, as well as connecting to the new development planned on the Cosgrove’s land at Fassaroe.
According to Green Party Senator, Déirdre de Búrca who attended a Luas briefing for Oireachtas members organised by Bray Town Council, the news is positive for the town of Bray . “From the very outset the Green Party has argued strongly for the extended Luas line to serve the massive new development on the Bray Golf Club Lands, as well as to connect to the Dart line and the Rosslare Rail line” she says. “We lobbied the RPA on this issue and also fought the case very strongly during the An Bord Pleanala Oral Hearing on the Golf Club Lands. It would appear that our arguments won out at the end of the day and that good sense prevailed. This is good news for the people of Bray and of County Wicklow generally. I will do all I can as a Green Party Senator to make sure that there is full Government financial support for the Luas coming to Bray to connect with the main rail line”.
Green Party councillor on Wicklow County Council, Cllr Ciarán O’Brien also welcomed the news. “The extension of the Luas Light Rail system to Bray Town Centre will mean that Bray will be extremely well-served by public transport into the future” he says. “. Residents of Wicklow who need to access major employment centres such as Sandyford and Cherrywood will welcome this news. More and better public transport is very much in line with Green Party thinking where people are offered real alternatives to using their cars. If we plan the Luas properly and combine it with better traffic management, better bus services and Quality Bus Corridors, this should reduce traffic congestion in the town and mean that businesses will benefit”.
Green Party councillor Caroline Burrell expressed her satisfaction at the decision to bring the Luas tomeet the Rosslare rail line in Bray Town Centre. “Public transport is the way forward and it is good to see Bray being looked after in this regard. The Green Party in Government will ensure that the extension of the Luas to Bray gets the financial backing it needs”.
