Council should provide pubic toilet for Aughrim village says de Burca

Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, has called on Wicklow County Council to provide a public toilet for the village of Aughrim.

Cllr de Burca points out that although Aughrim village has consistently won the Tidy Towns competition and is a big draw for tourists, it has no public toilet at present. She says that the new Aughrim Fishing Park is a great credit to the local committee that has developed it, and points out that President Mary Mc Aleese will soon be making an official visit to the village.

“It is hard to believe that Wicklow County Council has not seen fit to provide the money necessary to develop a public toilet for the village given the number of visitors that it attracts,” says de Burca. “There is a very suitable building on the edge of the Fishing Park that would serve as a public toilet but the council has not yet approved the necessary funding to allow this facility to be developed. This is very short-sighted of the council and I am calling on it to provide the funding needed so that this essential public facility can be immediately developed”.
