Greens call for new Luas line to extend to Bray Golf Club Lands
Green Party councillor on Bray Town Council, Deirdre de Burca, has called on Pizarro, the developers of the Bray Golf Club Lands, to insist on the extension of the new Luas line to the golf club lands. At present it is proposed to bring the new Luas line as far as the large Cosgrove development on lands at Fassaroe to the West of the N11.
“I find it incredible that the developers of the Bray Golf Club lands, a consortium of some of the biggest developers in the country, do not see the importance of bringing the new Luas line out as far as their new development” says Cathaoirleach of Bray Town Council and Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca. “Not alone would the new Luas line greatly increase the value of their property, it would also mean that the new population of this massive two billion development would have some alternative to using their cars to get to their places of work”.
De Burca says that Land Use and Transportation Study (LUTS) recently drawn up in conjunction with Dunlaoghiare Rathdown County Council and Bray Town Council, sees the new Luas line terminating at the Business Park being developed by the Cosgrove Brothers at Fassaroe. “While this makes a lot of sense, there is no reason why the line could not be extended a few miles from Fassaroe to terminate on the Bray Golf Club Lands” she says. “This would serve to boost the commercial life of Bray as well as to provide a badly-needed public transport alternative to the new population of the golf club lands development”.
De Burca says that many of the new population may be employed in Fassaroe Business Park and will need to travel there by car or bus every day in the absence of an alternative public transport option such as the Luas. “The Dart is a wonderful asset for Bray but it really only serves the coastal route between Bray and Dublin City Centre” she says. “The Luas would serve many other inland areas and would free up the population of Bray and its environs from having to use their cars for almost every journey outside of the town”.
De Burca says that the Green Party councillors on Bray Town Council proposed reserving land on the Bray Golf Club Lands for a Luas line when the new Bray Town Development Plan was being adopted last year, but that this proposal was not supported by a majority of other councillors on the council. She is calling on the councillors to reconsider their decision and to work with Pizarro to try to have the new Luas line extended to the golf club lands.
