Objections to Greystones Harbour Development must be with an Bord Pleanala by February 15th says de Burca
Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, has called on residents of Greystones to submit any objections or proposed changes to the proposed harbour development to an Bord Pleanala by February 15th.
“Wicklow County Council published its Environmental Impact Statement in relation to the proposed harbour development on December 22nd” says de Burca. “This means that members of the public can make submissions on the EIS up to and including February 15th. This EIS should be available for the public to examine on Wicklow County Council’s website and in the council offices. Any resident of Greystones who is not completely happy with the proposed development should make a submission to the Board, outlining their concerns”.
Cllr de Burca says that the Green Party has serious concerns about the scale and the modern design of the proposed harbour development. “Greystones harbour and beach is a well-loved and well used beauty spot, though badly neglected and in need of a restoration programme that addresses coastal erosion and which is sensitive to the unique character of the town, to its Victorian harbour front, panoramic seascapes and views of Bray Head” she says.
The Green Party supports the position of local group, the Greystones Protection and Development Association, that a restoration programme of approximately 30 million euros would cover the cost of restoring the harbour, building a modest marina for local use and installing the necessary coastal protection works.
“Wicklow County Council recently made a 9 million euros offer for lands at Clermont College Rathnew” says de Burca. “The County Manager, Eddie Sheehy, stated that the council could sell off development land in Greystones to cover this cost. Why is this money not being used to cover the cost of some of the harbour works that need to be carried out in Greystones itself “ she asks.
